crochet pot plant covers

A good way to brighten up plain terracotta pots. I'm making these for the school fete. A group got together and made some neon macrame hanging pots as well. To be honest - I found it easier to stick with crochet. 

Merri Creek Primary School fete is this Saturday, the 23rd of March from 10 am at  Miller Street North Fitzroy. See you there.

what the tarn-ation?

 T-shirt yarn is called "tarn"?

 I've been knitting a tarn top

using large needles and making it up as I go along.

 It's uneven and rough.....but I like it.

It's soft and stretchy and fast to make!

Now to make the back - and maybe add some coloured wooden beads to the neckline...

My Creative Space - pretty necklaces with trim

With a few upcoming markets I thought I'd make some pretty little things for gifts for little girls. 

Using trims - lace and fringing. I had some short snake chains and with a tiny crochet hook and embroidery yarn, I crocheted around the chain and through the trim.

 

A few tricks - don't crochet too tight or it won't sit flat as you can see in the picture - I have had to unpick it and start again!

My Creative Space: Balsa wood beads

 

Yes I know I shouldn't be starting another  project but our new little drill was calling me! 

"Come here!" it called "Use me! Press my button! I'm fun and useful!"

And it wasn't lying. It even shines a light on what you are drilling! Whoa!

So. What to drill? These little craft blocks of (sustainable plantation grown) balsa wood were calling me too.

 "Drill me" they called! "Drench me in colour!" they added. "We need a makeover! Transform me into something pretty!"*

So I did.

 Using Landscape Dyes I soaked those little blocks in colour and simmered.

They sure were thirsty and soaked up the colour! I did try some ombre dip dying but the wood was too porous and the effect didn't work.

 

  Hmmm. It's hard to take a photo of simmering...

For the record, I rinsed them well, and they dried out quite quickly without losing shape or getting warped. Phew!

I also made sure they didn't leach any colour onto the skin when wet! Didn't they turn into bright and happy little things?

 Now it's a simple matter of stringing them onto chain (or whatever you wanted to use). I put a wooden bead between them.

 I like a long necklace (partly because I am, ahem, very flat chested - yes which makes my obsession with Dolly Parton even sadder) but I have also ordered some shorter chains which I think will look good.

Joining My Creative Space

Seems like a good place to hang out on a Thursday - over at  my creative space . 

I'm trying it out for blogtoberfest.

Do I have a creative space? Sometimes it seems more like a tiny creative spot - or a creative crack!

Today it's all neon builders string crocheted into pieces that will eventually be necklaces. I'm adapting the original pattern and making smaller, more delicate versions - for those who only want a touch of neon rather than a huge statement piece. And I've just been trying out adding beads as well.
