It's Christmas time but life goes on...

Two of my friends have recently had babies. This felt-a-bet Q is for baby Quinn...now I'm off to make a felt-a-bet "A" for baby Abigail, who was born the other day on her father's birthday!

Do you have some family birthdays at Christmas time? One of my sister's, Josephine, has her birthday on the 21st of December. And yes. Her name really is Josephine Mary because she was born so close to Christmas! Another sister's birthday is on the 27th and my daughter Hazel is on the 28th.

Josephine always said she had to wait longer for her birthday than anyone else. Well, time is relative and that must have been how it seemed to her after seeing six other sisters and a brother celebrating their birthdays throughout the year. Although, I think pre-Christmas birthdays are better than post. The sister on the 27th always hated “joint Christmas/ birthday presents” and really, who has the energy the day after boxing day, to whip up a cake and get all excited about a birthday? Most of us are still in recovery mode. And we were in BIG trouble if the present was wrapped in Christmas paper!!!

But really, for all their complaining, these sisters and Hazel end up getting more birthday consideration and more presents in the end. More family are around, more of us are in buying/shopping/making/posting mode and an extra present gets popped into the parcel. So I hope Quinn and Abigail will grow up enjoying their birthday celebrations amid the buzz of Christmas anticipation.

word games

S&A are finally stuffed! That's the felt-a-bet letters, "S&A", not my friends, S & A, who they are for! (S&A - you know who you are so avert your eyes! They will be in the post this afternoon)The "A" is reversable, purple or green, depending on your mood, A.
I've also made the first initial of each of the twins, a "P" and a "W". Here is Pepper peeking through her P. She sleeps with her "P" everynight.

Well now that I had a few felt-a-bet letters, I couldn't resist a word game. I've always been a fan of boggle (although not recently because I'm really sick of picking up the cubes or rescuing them from Baby Joe's mouth!) and I love scrabble - but I have no willing competitors here at my place.  Here are all the words I could think of - and yes okay it IS cheating a little to use the "W" as a "M".

I'm also a big nerdy fan of the SBS quiz show "Letters and Numbers" 6pm week nights - not that I get to watch it very often. But I have convinced a friend to apply to go on it!

Felt-a-bet letters are all made from recycled wool felt and even stuffed with the scraps. They may even make it into re-sew-cool kit form soon...

Finish things Friday

Today has been a "finish things Friday" for me.

Sewing up this knitted hat....

Finishing crocheting this hat for Wanda...

And stuffing a "W" felt-a-bet for Wanda - even though she has decided to be called "Jessie".

The best thing about "Finish things Friday" is that it means I can have a "Start Something new Saturday"!
