Maribyrnong Makers Market - TOMORROW!!!!

If you are in the area come and check out this wonderful market - the Maribyrnong Makers Market. The sister outlaws have only been there once and we just LOVED it.  What lovely people, gorgeous church hall and all round atmosphere of hand made goodness!
We will be selling a range of re-sew-cool craft goods - perfect for keeping the kids busy in the up coming school holidays. We will also have some sweet by and by  crocheted beads, necklaces  and bangles to brighten your Spring wardrobe.

Mexican Goodies at The Fitzroy Market

Tomorrow is market day for the sister outlaws! 
We will have a stall at the Fitzroy Market from 10 am - 2 pm

Along with our usual market goodies  like our winter woollies,

 

craft kits 

 

and hand made jewellery  

we will be selling a selection of colourful and unique hand made items from Mexico!

It's a great market with music, food, second hand clothes and best of all a lovely community feel. Come and say Hi if you are in the hood!

Winter Artisan Markets

Ah...The fickle nature of markets.

The past three weeks I have had a market stall. Same place. (The Northcote Town hall). Same time. (Saturday 10am - 4pm) Same stuff (Recycled woollen accessories, craft kits and crocheted stuff...you know the sort of thing!) 

So you think there would be some consistency over the weeks as to what sells, right? 

Well….ah….No.

And that’s why I love markets. Even though we repeat the event each week, each week throws up surprises. One week it’s the re-sew-cool kits selling like hotcakes....

- the next week it’s all the recycled cable jumper scarves 

– and the next week the beads have their moment in the sun.... 

 And next week? Who knows!

One thing is consistent – I have a great time meeting people. I’ve come across old friends, old neighbours and many new faces. I love chatting – talking with people about how I make my rope scarves, encouraging them to crochet, recycle and make. 

Little girls look at my fairy floss beehive hair in wonder. Older ladies give me tips on my knitting and crochet – yesterday a lady told me how to use jelly crystals to dye wool!(Yes! I will be trying that!) Dorian, a toddler hanging out with his mum at another stall, peppered my day with lovely soft cuddles. Yesterday as I sold something – I would go and buy something from one of the other stalls…thanks Grandma Chuckles! These are the most wonderful toys!

 

I'm not there to make money (Goodness knows I have been known to give the stuff away!) but for the great day out and the people.

So thank you to all who have visited my stall, complimented the work, shared the craft ideas and brightened my day like the winter sunshine streaming through the amazing town hall doors. One more Saturday to go - Northcote Town Hall 10am -4 pm.

My Creative Space: tassels

It's all about the tassels here in my creative space today.
But now it's time to get ready for the Kris Kringle Night Market at the Northcote Town Hall. Yes.  I know it's VERY hot in Melbourne today. But hopefully some people will still be wandering in later in the evening!

Maribyrnong Maker's Market - Tomorrow!

It's reached that point - the blur of the to do list, the slight feeling of nervousness - Have I packed enough? Will anyone buy anything? Will everything go smoothly? What have I forgotten? 

It's market day tomorrow!

The sister outlaws will be selling their Christmas wares at the Maribyrnong Maker's Market. 

In preparation today I did a bit of a trial run of the set up in the back yard. Just to make the back yard even crazier! Some neon pom poms to decorate the umbrella are needed I think!

And we have been making some new display samples of the re-sew-cool kits too!

Okay! I'd better get back to it. Where's that list??

Welcome Winter

It’s the first day of winter here so we’re celebrating with hanging a little snowflake  garland, made from felt, interfacing and doilies. Now when I say “celebrating” I should clarify that I really, really, don’t like winter. 

I am very sensitive to the cold! I seemingly feel the cold more than the rest of my family. And it’s not just the cold but those dull grey Melbourne skies. But what can you do? As the song goes, “you got to  ac-cent-tchu-ate the postive, eliminate the negative." Or as Machiavelli puts it, “keep your friends close and your enemies closer”. Or simply “If you can’t beat ‘em, join em!”

As kids we had to catch an early bus to school. Oh! Those foggy, frosty mornings! Mum would put our shoes in the oven before we had to put them on! As a film student, our peak filming time was through the winter. For three years I managed to cope with outdoor shoots, night shoots and worst of all – outdoor night shoots – by wearing a snowsuit. The sound people would be very annoyed if I moved, but it was the only way I could manage to get through was by zipping myself into those overalls!

How do you cope with winter?

This first month will fly for the sister outlaws because we will be taking part in the Winter Artisan Market at the Northcote Town Hall! So we will cope by making and selling gorgeous wintry-recycled-felty-jumper-goodness!

Crochet Collars

 These collars are from a pattern book published in 1965.

 Please excuse the close ups of my "bok-bok" neck - as the twins call it. "Bok-bok" is their twin-speak word for chook! Ah...out of the mouths of babes....

 I was trying to look all old fashioned and demure, but I just look a bit brain dead. I hate getting photographed!!! This last collar below is a simple one I made up. I will post the pattern if I remember how I did it.

 

I'm hoping to have some of these to sell at the Northcote Town Hall Winter Artisan Market next month! But more on that later....

Vintage Knitwear For Sale!

Sorting through the sister outlaw's stash of jumpers usually gives me a giggle or two. I'm always astounded at some of the crazy things people will design and render wool! For  example...a beach scene...

.. or a tropical island....

or how about tropical fish?

I mean, does someone go, "Well what would look good in a winter woolly garment? Um...I know... How about something hot and tropical?"

Our stall at the Fitzroy Market this Saturday the 19th of May will have every sort of knit you have ever thought of and some you could never imagine.

There will be....pretty knits...

 traditional knits...

 designer knits...

tartan knits...(complete with scotty dog) 

historic knits ...

 people knits....

 places knits....

 and even knitwear in 3D!!!

And that's just for starters!
