Save the little soy sauce fish from take away sushi! They make a lovely window garland or would look great hung individually on the tree. We filled them with water coloured with food colouring and painted the tops with different coloured nail polish.
And save the packet too. Why? Well, sushi containers are perfect for shrinky dinking. My daughter Mattie made this (Kesha themed) charm bracelet for her sister. The diamond charms are sushi packets (the rest is shrinky dink frosted plastic that you can buy from a craft store.) Mattie drew on the plastic with a sharpie pen and used a hole punch to make the hole. Then into a very slow oven and watch it shrink and thicken. You can place something flat on top when it comes out of the oven to ensure it doesn't curl.
And while we were shrinky dinking, we made these snowflake bauble necklaces for the twins. Blue pencil on frosted shrinky dink.
now that is the most unique and eco bunting i've seen. and it's pretty to boot. great tip re the sushi packaging, keen to give that a go x
ReplyDeleteThe shrinky dinking is so fun Max. Any plastic with the recycled symbol and number 6 on it can be used for shrinky dinks.
DeleteMy daughter and I were just talking about sushi fish a couple of days ago! She thought they'd look cute with tiny led lights inside, but your idea is lovely and probably easier to achieve. I love the twins snowflake necklaces, and the fabric of the twin in the first pic's dress is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes the fish are so cute it seems a shame to throw them away, doesn't it. Led lights would look great! Have you seen this? http://www.thehousethatlarsbuilt.com/2011/12/2nd-day-of-christmas-crafts-candy.html
Delete(oh and Pepper's dress is a "little Leona" dress from Leano Edminston. She had a couple of great fifties style dresses and we bought them in a few sizes. I even tried them on in kids size 14! But I couldn't move my arms.
Pepper. What an utterly gorgeous name.
DeleteI have been keeping an eye on that blog. Will check your link in a sec, but have you seen the holly made from balloons? Def a dec for dummies I reckon!
