The little blue penguins off the coast of Tauranga New Zealand are suffering from the disastrous oil spill.
The Skeinz natural yarn store in New Zealand has been asked to help with the penguin relief by knitting small Penguin PJ’s to help protect the birds. The jumpers prevent them from preening their feather & ingesting the toxic oil. The jumpers must be pure wool, the pattern is on the skeinz website - as is the address to send them to. So get knitting!
Awww, time to get the needles out!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I could knit more than a dodgey square!!
ReplyDeleteOh this is adorable. It's so sad to see what has happened to these poor babies. I'm with the others, think it's time to help knit penguin coats.
ReplyDeleteA Facebook follower of re-sew-cool reports that she heard that they now have enough wee garments. Great that the knitters came to the rescue! (Perhaps check before knitting any more?)
ReplyDeleteYikes! should have checked...got too inspired by the woolly little penguin. What should I do with the one I have started? Recycle it to be a wine bottle holder? In fact - I wonder if they have some extras that need refashioning into something else? Arm warmers???
ReplyDeleteYeah, I also thought wine bottles! I mean, look at them!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe save them for the next time penguins need rescuing? I'm sure that it will happen again - even though I wish it wouldn't!
Not only have the penguins received a great response from knitters, they are looking sartorially splendid! http://www.craftstylish.com/item/90152/knitters-respond-to-help-penguins-affected-by-oil-spill
ReplyDeleteWhat a story! They look too cute. Love that everyone bucked up:) Julie
